Meditation: Path To Inner Peace

One of the most accessible and universal ways to achieve inner peace and to develop a person's best qualities, is through the experience of meditation. The importance of meditation is rooted in ancient wisdom and its validity is confirmed by a body of medical and scientific evidence.

If we clear away all the labels and the clichés, we can agree that meditation represents something we all want: a moment of serene tranquility, of thoughtless awareness, in which a subtle inner joy emerges. In an instant, our busy thoughts subside and all that remains is a calm awareness and recognition of the beauty of existence.

It is a state which we have all felt, however briefly, at least once in our lives, when touched by the beauty of a natural landscape, fragrance of a flower or the splendor of a sunrise. It is the grace that inspired Mozart’s glorious melodies, the power and harmony of Michelangelo’s sculptures, and the skillful, musical lines of Shakespeare and Dante.

The Meditative State

Meditation, although governed by a marvelously complex mechanism, can be easily achieved and maintained.

True meditation is the state of thoughtless awareness where we are not thinking about the future and the past. In this state, without being engaged in any specific activity, all our attention is in the present moment. Getting to this state however, requires a subtle transformation referred to as self-realization. Self-realization is the awakening of an inner spiritual, motherly energy that is present in every human being. This feminine energy is known by various names and symbolism in different spiritual cultures including Tao, Holy Spirit and the Kundalini. The spiritual awakening which follows self-realization, lifts the attention above the thoughts, beyond the duality of time, and allows us to be in the present moment, thoughtless and aware.

The technique of achieving self-realization was developed by Shri Mataji who for over 40 years, shared her knowledge with seekers of truth all over the world, never charging any money. Although she left this world in 2011, her legacy still shines bright as millions of people around the world practice Sahaja Yoga and share her life changing teachings.
