Meditation: Path to Inner Peace

One of the most accessible and universal ways to achieve inner peace and to develop a person's best qualities, is through the experience of meditation. The importance of meditation is rooted in ancient wisdom and its validity is confirmed by a body of medical and scientific evidence.

If we clear away all the labels and the clichés, we can agree that meditation represents something we all want: a moment of serene tranquility, of thoughtless awareness, in which a subtle inner joy emerges. In an instant, our thronging thoughts subside and all that remains is a calm awareness: the recognition of the beauty of existence. It is a state that we have all felt, however briefly, at least once in our lives, when touched by the beauty of a natural landscape, the perfume of a flower or the splendor of a sunrise. It is the grace that inspired Mozart’s glorious melodies, the power and harmony of Michelangelo’s sculptures, and the skillful, musical lines of Shakespeare and Dante.

The Meditative State

THE STATE OF MEDITATION, ALTHOUGH GOVERNED BY A MARVELOUSLY COMPLEX MECHANISM, IS VERY SIMPLE TO ACHIEVE AND BY LITTLE PRACTICE CAN BE EASILY MAINTAINED.

Many traditions and cultures, associate true meditation with self knowledge and self-realization. Hence, a meditative person is usually portrayed as someone who is one with his or her true nature and therefore, is peaceful. Self-realization is said to be achieved through the awakening of an inner spiritual, Motherly energy which is present within every human being and is referred to in Sanskrit scriptures as Kundalini.

The way to achieve this spiritual awakening was shown to us by a Lady named Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi who was the founder of Sahaja Yoga and for over 40 years, offered self-realization all over the world to those who sought answers to the deepest questions. The spiritual awakening which follows self-realization, lifts the attention above the thoughts, beyond the duality of time, and allows the practitioners to be in the present moment, thoughtless and aware.
